This piece of art started out life as the underlying pieces of waxed paper under my students watercolor batiks! I loved the look of the wrinkled, tinted paper and saved it for a year or so. Then one day I dug them out of my “stuff” and tore them and added some detail with pen and ink. Then I tore up my demo paintings of the same design, one on watercolor paper (I actually peeled off the very top layer!) and one on rice paper. Played around with the arrangement and Voila!, a collage was born! I am adding two photos, one of the collage and one of the original design as a watercolor batik so you can follow my thought process.

The moral here is “never throw anything away!”
