Available Seminar Artwork

All seminars are 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break. With each seminar I provide a packet with full instructions, line drawings, full color worksheets and photos for each student and paint/products used in the seminar. I will bring the sample of the project with me; I do not send it on ahead.

Project Title: White Rose

Skill Level: Intermediate

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium: Acrylics

Surface::16” x 20” canvas or surface of your choice basecoated in black

Skills to be taught: Learn to paint a Contemporary Multi-load white rose and leaves.  With a bit of practice, students should then be able to paint the flowers on any surface they choose as the focus of the seminar is to learn the technique to be able to use it beyond the seminar project.

Special Products Needed for the Seminar:

  • #8 round sable         
  • 2/0 script liner
  • 5/8” angle shader
  • #5 round white bristle drybrush
  • Masterson Sta-Wet Palette – smaller Handy Palette preferred for class

Project Title: Pansies

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break
 
Medium: Acrylics

Surface:  16”x20” mat board basecoated in DecoArt’s  Bleached Sand or similar color

Skills to be taught:

This technique resembles soft, sepia toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with acrylics. Learn to create depth and form with values of brown before adding any color. Linework and floating/glazing techniques are part of the focus.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • #5 sable round
  • ½” and 5/8” angle shaders
  • #5 white bristle round dry brush
  • 2/0 script liner
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette
  • Grey graphite (wax-free)

I provide:
Packet with full instructions, line drawings, photos and/or color worksheet.  I will also supply paint for the seminar.  I will bring the sample of the project with me.


Project Title: Standing Tall

Skill Level: All

Surface:  16”x20” mat board basecoated in DecoArt’s  Bleached Sand or similar color

Skills to be taught:

Special emphasis placed on learning to “Shade in the V’s”  Linework and floating/glazing techniques are part of the focus.

  • Grey graphite (wax-free)

Project Title: Pear with Patinaed Mat

Skill Level: All levels, suitable for Beginners

    Medium: Acrylics, Magic Metallics

Surface: 12” x 14” matboard basecoated in DecoArt’s Bleached Sand or Delta’s Raw Linen or similar light color and an 8” x 10” black rectangle mat with a 5” x 7” opening. Students can provide their own or I can provide for 13.50 per set.

Skills to be Taught: This technique resembles soft, sepia-toned pen and ink work with a watercolor wash but is done entirely with brushes and acrylic paints. Learn to create depth and form with only values of brown before adding washes of color. Linework and floating techniques are part of the seminar focus. Create the real, copper patinaed mat and separate vase with Magic Metallics metals and patinas.

Special Products Needed for the Seminar:

  • Margot's Miracle Brush
  • ½" angle shader with sharp chisel edge
  • 5/0 or 10/0 script liner (long bristles)
  • Masterson's Sta-Wet Palette (small, 8 ½" x 7" size preferred for class)
  • Grey graphite (wax free)
  • 1" flat wash/glaze brush
  • Newspapers
  • Small foam plates (6)


Project Title: Faded Glory

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break
 
Medium: Acrylics

Surface:  16”x20” mat board basecoated in DecoArt’s  Bleached Sand or similar color

Project: Faux Mother-of-Pearl with Scrollwork

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 day - day to consist of 8 hours including lunch break

Medium: Acrylics

Surface: 5”x16” metal box with wooden lid available from Painters Paradise or students can paint on any surface they choose that fits the dimensions basecoated in black.

Skills to be taught:
This technique features the creation of Faux Mother-of-Pearl. Linework techniques are part of the focus.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • ½” angle shader
  • 5/0 or 10/0 script liner
  • Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palette
  • White graphite (wax-free)

Project Title: The Basics of Texture Painting

Skill Level: All

Length of Seminar: 1 full day to consist of 8 hours including lunch

Medium :Margot’s Miracle Mud – note that a Miracle Mud kit is a required purchase for each student at 18.95 each.

Surface: Student’s choice.  In the photo I show many different surfaces.  Medium to dark colors work best. Cardstock or pretty scrapbook papers are a great surface as they make an inexpensive practice surfaces and can be easily made into a cards or framed.

Skills to be taught: Variety of flower and leaf constructions. This is based on my Contemporary Multi-load Technique using a pastry tube and my Margot’s Miracle Brush.  Learn freehand design skills and is a huge benefit before my rose class as you learn to construct a rose freehand. I use this technique to decorate lamps, vases, boxes, cards, glass ornaments – where ever I think the paste will stick!  This is a great seminar to choose if you are also choosing the White Rose on Black as it gives the students skills that make the rose easier to learn.

Special products needed for seminar:

  • Margot’s Miracle Brush or #3 round sable
  • *#1 Wilton pastry/icing tip
  • *Disposable icing bag
  • *Set of couplers
  • Starred items available at Michael’s or other craft stores in the cake decorating sections
  • Kitchen sponge
  • Plastic storage container that fits a sandwich

I provide:
Packet with full instructions, line drawings, photos and/or color worksheet.  I will also supply product for the day of the seminar.  I will bring the sample of the projects with me.
